Today was the start of the school holidays, George has 11 days free. This morning we decided to try out some hair gel in the boys hair. We made mohican hairstyles...

...and then swept it all to one side, which George decided he liked much better and wanted to keep it like that all day!

Its too cold outside to spend much time outdoors at the moment, so instead of going out anywhere, this weekend George and his Daddy made a paper mache space rocket.

And we had wraps with grated carrots and cheese and sultanas for lunch because George made these at school and wanted to make them at home too.

This half term at school George has been learning all about the Chinese New Year, during one of the fun activities he has been doing he made this hat. He also has had a Chinese Banquet, learnt Chinese writing, had a martial arts demonstration, tasted different Chinese tea, learnt Dragon dancing and had a Chinese drama workshop.

Recently Toby has been getting up in the night and coming into our bed, so i had a little joke with him asking him which bed he was going to take his nap in. He took in one step further and decided that actually it would be quite fun to try to get to sleep in his brothers bed....although in the end he decided he actually didn't want an afternoon nap at all!

The boys love to play with the red blanket that is kept behind the sofa. It is suppose to be for when the weather gets cold to wrap around Toby in his pushchair - but luckily we havent needed it this winter so far as its been so mild. It often becomes a tent cover, or a bed, or a spaceship....this time they decided it made them into Kings! They play ever so well together.

21/366 Busy Day

Here are the boys at 9am in the morning, playing the game 'Zoo am I?' where you have to ask questions to figure out what animals is on your head. Soon after this myself and George went off to the cinema for his friends Alison's birthday party (meanwhile Toby went to Dadz and Kidz with his Daddy). We watched the film 'Happy Feet 2', it was the first time George had been to the cinema and he was a bit scared at first and spent the first hour with his fingers in his ears as it was too loud. I think he enjoys the sweets though! We then went to Alison's house for some party lunch. Then in the afternoon George had yet another party to go to. This time it was Evies party and she had a bouncy castle and lots of food and games. (George also had two birthday parties last saturday too!). By the time we walked home it was almost 7pm and time for bed. A very busy day!

8/366 Mirror, Mirror, on the wall...

This morning we went to some shops in Weston and managed to buy a mirror for our newly decorated hallway. Whilst loading it into the car, we saw that it was in fact a free-standing mirror, but as we hadn't seen anything else we liked, we decided that we would convert it into a wall hanging one. Here it is hanging on our hallway wall, with the boys in their pyjamas, clean out the bath, ready for bed. I think they both find it exciting that they finally have a mirror that they can see themselves in.

I have to admit to forgetting to get around to taking a photo until 8pm today. This meant that the boys were already in bed and the day was pretty much over. I spent the day scrapbooking with my friends at the crop i go to once a month. This is a photo of one of the pages i completed. It uses some supplies that Yolanda gave me as a Christmas present, and also uses some wooden banner pieces that were cut on my dads new CNC machine. Meanwhile the boys apparently had a lovely time eating lunch out at a cafe, going to the seafront and playground and playing lego.

Today i found some time to play with my craft robo again. I learnt how to cut directly from Inkscape and found loads of free svg files to download too. With Toby's help we managed to make some cute owls, which Toby took great pleasure in showing to everyone later on.

5/366 Reading

George is progressing so amazingly well with his reading. He now reads a whole book in just 10 minutes or so and only gets stuck on a few very hard words. Today he got stuck on the words 'moccasins', 'moose' and belongs'. He surprised me by reading the words 'angry', 'magician' and 'mountain with no help at all. I don't think he is doing bad for a 4 year old. It will be very exciting to see how he progresses once he actually starts to learn to read in school and is given proper reading books on a reading scheme with levels etc.

I really should know better than to ask George to smile....this really was the best of the photos we took after school today! He looks very intelligent doesn't he!

Here are the boys this morning, ready to take George to school for the first time this year. The weather was really bad...so windy it had blown one of recycling boxes down the road...and also heavy rain meaning that myself and George got rather wet. Toby was luckier as at least he stayed dry under his pushchair covers! This photo was taken at about 8:35am, and you can see just how dark it was outside still. Lets hope the rain has stopped by the time we have to go and collect him.

2/366 Rainbow

It has hardly stopped raining all day today. This afternoon we saw a lovely double rainbow out of our back garden. The sky was very dark above it but quite blue below as the photo shows. Immediatly after the rainbow faded, we had a huge hailstorm.

And here a bonus photo of Toby taping up the box that contanis our Christmas Tree. We have put away all the decorations for 11 months and the house seems very empty, but also very tidy, now.

1/366 Happy New Year

We spent the morning of the first day of 2012 playing with lots of toys as a family. Firstly we played with the oven and plastic food, then with the cogs and atfer lunch the wooden train track came downstairs. In the afternoon we went to Grandma and Grandad's where we played on the Wii and then had some tea with Grandpa Dave. All in all, a relaxing start to 2012.

I am going to be trying to take part in a group next year, that involves taking a photo every day. I dont expect to find the time to upload them all every day, maybe just once a week. But if i can do it, it will be a nice record of our first full year in our new home.

Painting

Friday was the last day of school for George until the new year, so i tried to make the most of this and let Toby get messy with some painting - its a lot easier to supervise only one child at a time when the paints come out! Toby really enjoyed himself and it kept him busy for more than an hour and he was very deliberate with which colour he wanted to use and exactly where he put the paint, maybe he has the creative gene too :)

Visit to School

This morning we spent an hour at George's new school, talking to the teacher and meeting some other children who will be in his class. George was very excited to wear his uniform for the very first time....but in typica George fashion he decided that he wouldnt let me take any nice photos of him! We also purchased soem school jumpers during our visit so he looks even smarter wearing them too. Some better photos will hopefully follow on Thursday when George starts school properly.

Toby absolutely adores Tomatoes at the moment. He is easting far too many of them (resulting in a sore bottom!) Every time he goes to Grandads or talked to him on the phone all he will say is 'tomato'...or at least his noise for the word anyway! Here he is on Saturday, after having had a nice new haircut...and you can tell he has been eating tomatoes!

Masterpieces

This afternoon the boys have been painting a canvas each. They had amazing concentration and even Toby knew exactally what colours he wanted and where he wanted to put them. The results are so lovely and colourful i think they deserve to go on display somewhere in our house!

Toby tiger

I should have known it wasnt a smart idea to leave Toby with his felt tip pens whilst i made bread rolls. Within about 30 seconds he had managed to draw black felt tip all over his face. George said that he looked like a tiger! I am not sure if he was trying to make himself a tiger or a panda! Luckily they were the washable pens and it soon wiped off (and at least i wasnt stupid enough to sit him next to the wall!)

A big spoon for a little man

Tree Stump Jumping

Today we spent the afternoon cutting down the tree in the front garden. Here are the boys just before bedtime, after all the hard work had finished. As you can probably see, George was in a jumping mood and therefore he is jumping in all the photos!

Homework & Beans

Yesterday it took a little convincing for George to get started with his first ever 'homework', i suggested we do one page a day.....he did 7 pages in one go and is nearly finished now! I think i was suppose to do a lot of the writing, but George seemed to cope fine and enjoy doing it, so he did it all himself.

For tea we had broad beans, the boys enjoyed taking them out the pods...but took more effort to make them enjoy eating them!

I forgot to take a photo of the boys today...we were out all day and i am not good at remembering to take my camera with me! Me, George and Grandma went shopping for school uniform whilst Toby statyed with Grandad. In the afternoon we went to the seafront. I had just realised that i had forgotten to take a photo of the boys when they were tucked up in bed, when i saw a lovely sunset outside...so thought i would take a photo of that instead.

Baking Scones

This morning we baked some scones at Georges request. Its so nice now that Toby can join in and help us too. The last photo shows George helping Toby 'paint' milk on the tops of the uncooked scones, he did this without any prompting.....they are such good brothers to each other!

Troublesome Photos

I have discovered a problem when trying to take photos of Toby. As soon as he spots i have the camera to hand, he comes right up to me sticks his face in the lens and does his most cheesiest smile. I dont know how i will stop him doing this....but be prepared for many more of these type of shots! Oh, and of course, George then has to copy his little brother so i cant get a nice photo of George either!

Panda Party

George had been a little upset all morning, and when i finally got him to tell me what was the matter the problem was soon solved. His Panda had told him that he wanted to meet Panda K (who lives at grandma and grandad's house). So a quick phonecall later and Grandma arrived with Panda K. All the pandas (Panda, Tobys Panda, Bamboo and Panda K) plus Spencer the dog had a little party to get to know each other. Apparently Panda K is now going to be staying with us for a while!

So more than three years on since the last photo was posted here, and i think i am at another point in my life where things should have calmed down and i am feeling like i want to attempt this challenge again. I cant promise that i will remember to take a photo every single day, and i expect some of the photos wont be that imaginative and will mostly be of my two little boys, but its such a great way to record the little things that happen that i dont always have the time to record in scrapbook form etc. So bare with me whilst i try and get the blog sorted and updated, and in the meantime i hope you all enjoy seeing more photos again.

George had his 8 months checkup today with the Health Visitor (even though he is 9 months!). Everything was fine, although when weighed he appeared to have lost weight, and now weights 10.4kg (22lbs)....but that is because he was weighed without clothes this time and last time it was with clothes...so we decided the last weight wasnt very accurate (this weight fits his growth curve much better). Anyway here is George when we got back, with his Bookstart pack he was given.
